A cup of tea contains 99% of water. Good table water is a great asset for tea brewing and it should be odorless, tasteless, colorless, and should be free from chemical and biological contamination. water for brewing tea should be in the PH of 6.5-8.5.

Studies have shown that the type of water used for brewing tea, especially those from the plant Camellia sinensis (green tea, black tea, oolong tea, white tea)  affects greatly the sensory properties of green tea and also mildly for black tea when using tap water for brewing tea. Also, when tea was brewed with deionized water it results in greater extraction of bitter catechins and double Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in tea.

Water can affect the color, taste, flavor, and overall quality of tea during brewing. Tea leaves have gone through much intensive labor during production and can be ruined by improper brewing caused by bad water due to its delicate nature.

Chlorinated water, desalinated water, or water that has been severally boiled are not good enough for brewing tea and should not be used.  A contaminated teapot can affect your enjoyment of good tea as much as using bad water. Water for brewing tea should be free from calcium and magnesium, these minerals cause TEA CREAM and TEA SCUM.

Tea cream is a reaction between caffeine and tea flavanols that results in precipitate matters which occurs when the tea cools down. Tea scum is a film that is composed of calcium, hydrogen carbonates, and other organic materials that form on the surface of the tea.

Tea drinkers who drink tea for its health benefits should source for a more purified water source such as spring water, bottled or deionized water for brewing tea.

This can result in low or high blood pressure. Both extremes are not good for health and have led to death. normal blood pressure is  120-80mmhg.

High blood pressure has different stages stage 1: SBP(Systolic blood Pressure ) 130-139 mmHg DBP(Diastolic blood pressure )80-89mmHg  while stage 2: SBP 140mmHg DBP ≥90mmHg

High blood pressure can lead to cardiovascular diseases, stroke, kidney failure, and dementia.

Teas are the most consumed beverages in the world. teas include those derived from the tea plant of Camellia sinensis such as Green teas, Black teas, White teas, Oolong teas, Matcha teas, and those from others herbs such as fruit teas and Rooibos teas.

In this article, I am writing on the caffeine content of those teas derived from the plant tree of Camellia Sinensis .these are teas that contain caffeine while those teas from other herbs do not contain caffeine. The production process of teas produced from camellia sinesis differ and these determine the caffeine content of each tea based on their oxidation and fermentation. The plant Camellia Sinensis contains caffeine and the amount of caffeine in a tea depends on the part of the plant it is derived from. The bud contains 4.70%, the first leaf contains 4.20%, the second leaf contains 3.50%, the third leaf contains 2.90%, the upper stem contains 2.50% and the lower stem contains 1.40% of caffeine respectively.

Green tea and white tea are non-fermented, while black tea and Pu-erh are fermented tea while oolong tea is a semi-fermented tea. The caffeine content on an average teacup is about 2.5% to 4% of the tea in a teacup. Studies carried out revealed that an average teacup of black tea brewed from 3-5 minutes contains between 22-60 mg of caffeine depending on the type of black tea. A cup of Green tea brewed for 3-5mins contains 16-41 mg of caffeine. A cup of white tea contains about 20-55mg of caffeine when brewed for 3-5 minutes. A cup of oolong tea contains about 10-55mg of caffeine when brewed for 3-5 minutes. A cup of Matcha tea contains about 20-40 mg of caffeine while a cup of Pu-erh tea contains about 14-125mg of caffeine.

A decaffeinated black tea contains about 1.8 -3.1mg of caffeine while a decaffeinated green tea contains 8.7- 10mg of caffeine if brewed for 5 minutes. The lesser the brewing time the fewer caffeine contents in teas. When comparing the amount of caffeine in coffee and teas, it was observed that coffee contains a higher amount of caffeine than tea. Coffee contains about 60-150 mg of caffeine per cup. Caffeine has health benefits these include: it helps in improving cognitive function and gives energy to the body.it can also cause harm to the body when taken in high doses.

Tea is a healthy diet drink and generally contains polyphenols that help the body to fight off various diseases and illnesses. it gives hydration to the body but it should be taken in moderation. drinking a maximum of 3-5 cups of tea daily is good for your body.
